  1. I now have 4 days over 170 miles of perfect scores in a row and my overall is still 98. It was 98 before those last 4 days…no change what happened to 100/100 for 100 miles

  2. Thank you to both George Head and Melody Lane for taking the time to make videos of their FSD Beta 10.2 experiences here in The Villages. We definitely have some unique challenges with our many roundabouts and gate arms. My Model 3 does not have the FSD Beta yet because I was in Greece when the request button became available. So in the meantime, my good friend, Gordon Mikkelson took me for a spin with his new FSD Beta in his Model 3.

We went from Rohan on 44 to Brownwood. Then from Brownwood down Meggison Rd towards Feeney. Then back to Rohan. I hope George and/or Melody have a chance to make a video on our same route.

First, like both George and Melody, we experienced issues with the roundabouts and the gate arms. The FSD Beta is just not there yet on these. The very first roundabout between Rohan and 44 on Morse Blvd was quite an adventure. The car switched lanes 2 or 3 times in a 1/10 of a mile in the circle.
Susan Berger Campbell was behind us in her Model Y and was probably laughing at us.

The very first 90 degree turn from a stopped position was a right turn onto 44. WOW…the acceleration during the turn was CRAZY. I’m not sure any human (unless they are a NASCAR driver) would take turns like that. But it stayed on the road and had us both laughing like we were on an amusement park ride.

From that turn to Buena Vista the car performed (as expected) flawlessly. I have done that stretch many times with Auto-steer with no issues. It turned right onto Buena Vista at the light and up to the first traffic circle where it made a left. Again…it did not handle the traffic circle well and Gordon had to take control. Driving through the square was an adventure as it was going too fast. But it recognized the weird traffic patterns of Brownwood better than expected. (In Brownwood, as we are coming in, it is two way traffic and then turns to one way traffic past the stop sign. The car recognized this and performed flawlessly).

We then programmed the car to go to Everglades Rec Center thinking it would go down Meggison Rd. When it came back to 44, near Codys restaurant, instead of going straight or left to go to Everglades, it incorrectly went right. Then it must have realized it was wrong and the screen said it was going to do a U-turn at the first light. It got into the left lane and the screen indicated that it was going to turn left. But it had its RIGHT turn signal on. Hummmm. Sure enough, when the light turned it started to turn right. Gordon had to take control again.

Gordon headed down Meggison Rd manually and let the car take over again. For some unknown reason, the car likes to drive in the left lane. It puts its turn signal on and moves to the left for no apparent reason. A little farther on Meggison, the car switched lanes (putting its turn signal on each time) 4 times in a 1/10 of a mile. There was a car behind us that must have thought we were drunk.

It turned incorrectly twice into construction areas and Gordon had to take control. And like George and Melody found, there was phantom breaking multiple times near the traffic circles.

THEN the fun part….we are heading south, everything seems fine and all of a sudden, we start accelerating like a rocket. I look at the screen and the Speed limit said 70mph. What happened is that we were near the Florida Turnpike and the car thought we were ON THE TURNPIKE. Once again, we were laughing.

My takeaway is that I love my Tesla more than anyone should love a car. And I am THRILLED to be on the leading edge of technology … I can’t wait to be a FSD Beta test pilot myself and hope its any day now BUT I caution everyone to PLEASE keep your hands on the wheel and foot near the break. Expect the car to do something unpredictable. That’s why its BETA.

  3. I got my FSD Beta 10.3.1 today with a Safety Score of 99. I read they will push updates for scores of 98 soon (maybe it will be with 10.4.1?) Now the Safety Score has been removed from my app.
I have only taken 2 trips so far, but it seemed to behave better in traffic circles than what I read in the earlier reports. But, there is still more work needed. It makes a full stop at the yield sign at the entrance to the traffic circle. And sometimes it jerks the wheel back and forth while in the circle.
It still does not recognize the gate arms.
On a positive note – I noticed it changes lanes much smoother than Auto Steer did.
And it is better at recognizing golf carts, pedestrians and bikes in the cart/bike lane.

  4. Been using my free trial of FSD (supervised) for the las t few weeks. Took a 28 mile trip outside the villages that was virtually flawless with stops, lane changes entrance and exit to I75 , right on red after stop and using a dirt road with no markings. Navigates around parked cars on streets and I was super impressed but after more testing found that a number of problems still exist for the Villages area.
#1 Will not recognize security gates (single bar gates ) in the vVillages.
#2 Bad mapping in areas of Villages. (will not take me most direct route from home to 466. Takes me backwards a couple miles and then to morse rather than directly to t
he Stillwater Rd gate only .6 mile away.
#3 The intersection of 301 and Rainy trail, it recognizes the light but then takes you right and makes a u-turn as it did before light was installed.
#4 doesn’t recognize to stop for gate pass machine.
#5 speed limit problems. Sometimes 5mph through a round about, someetime 25mph in side residential areas. Should be 20.
#6 Chill mode acceleration was in my view to agressive when not needed on slower roads in the villages.
#7 Some phantom breaking in the Villages.

I reported the problems each time I had to disengage and may try again in a few months on a monthly basis especially for longer trips but for now in the villages I do not see a benefit and it scares my wife .

  5. Forgot to mention. Love the self parking. I like to back in and it does a great job at centering in tight spaces (better than me) though a little slow for anybody waiting to get by.
